2017 AVCA final poll: champ CMS unanimous No. 1

National champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is the unanimous No. 1 team in the final AVCA poll of the 2017 season.

CMS is followed by national runner-up Wittenberg in second, Calvin third, Colorado College fourth and Emory fifth.

Central and Midwest region teams in the final top 25: No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus; No. 10 Northwestern; No. 12 Millikin; No. 12 Washington-St. Louis; No. 14 Carthage; No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan; No. 25 St. Thomas.

Calvin’s Kamp named 2017 AVCA Player of the Year

Calvin junior outside Anna Kamp was selected as the 2017 AVCA Division III Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year. Anna is the fourth Kamp sister to win the award, joining Rebecca in 2011, Lizzie in 2012 and Maggie in 2014.

Nancy Somera from Johnson & Wales (R.I.) was tabbed the AVCA’s Division III Coach of the Year. Somera has led the unbeaten Wildcats (35-0) to the national quarterfinals for the first time.
