UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire share WIAC title

UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh started the night tied atop the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 6-1 records. It came down to two matches to decide the league title: Oshkosh @ UW-Platteville and Eau Claire @ UW-Superior. Nothing changed tonight as Oshkosh and Eau Claire both won and earned a share of the regular-season crown.

Platteville once again gave Oshkosh fits, but the No. 10 Titans came from way behind to win set one and downed the Pioneers in four, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16. Oshkosh will be the No. 2 seed in the WIAC tournament, beginning Nov. 4.

The Titans won at least a share of the regular-season WIAC crown for the ninth (2006, 2005, 2001, 1995, 1994, 1991, 1990, 1982) time.

Eau Claire had an easier time in Superior, sweeping the Yellowjackets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-14. Because the Blugolds beat the Titans earlier this year, Eau Claire will be the No. 1 seed in the WIAC tourney.

The Blugolds earned at least a share of their third (2006, 1987) WIAC championship.

Final WIAC Standings
Oshkosh 7-1 (26-2 overall)
Eau Claire 7-1 (15-10)
Whitewater 6-2 (21-6)
La Crosse 6-2 (21-7)
Platteville 4-4 (14-13)
River Falls 2-6 (12-16)
Superior 2-6 (11-15)
Stevens Point 1-7 (12-19)
Stout 1-7 (4-19)
