Proposed regional realignment

The NCAA has provided a look into the 2021-22 Realignment Plan. The matter has not yet been settled by all committees, but these are the preliminary 10 regions for women’s volleyball.

Surely no one could find competitive-balance inequities in this proposal … and I don’t think Maranatha was accounted for.

  1. They chopped NE in two. They chopped NY in two. They moved 6 other conferences of which only 1 is a pool C player, the Capital AC, and that league is about to dissolve! So not much has changed.
    The big unknown is what the rule for # of ranked teams will be. If it stays 15% with a minimum of 8 (80 schools!) that will be an unmitigated disaster for the non NE/NY/MA regions. If they go with a straight 15% and no minimum that means only 1 more ranked team for NE (11 to 12), and 2 more for NY, but, it would still be bad news for the for the CE(8 to 6), GL(7 to 6), and WE(8 to 6) regions. Oops!, sorry, regions, IX, VII, and X.
