  3. Cal Lu, Illinois Wesleyan and Ithaca go combined winless? Goodness. That’s either a victory for pre-conference scheduling, or a failure of the rankings.

  4. Anon @ 11:53 a.m.,
If I were a betting man, my guess would be that all three will remain ranked this week.

  5. Here is my first pass at a pool C project using just the QWI points I have mentioned. Matches through 9/16. By the way, I am open to suggestions on the name to maximize the interest of committee people. I did not find the word “quality” in any of my champ manuals back to 2011. Was it a softball term?
No teams from the MA, NE, NY, or SO region have enough points as yet. You need at least 6 to get a bid, which would equate to 2 wins over Pablo 26-50 range teams. TX-Tyler is in the data while not eligible.

CE region Pool A: Gustavus Adolphus, Northwestern-MN, Coe, Greenville
MW region Pool A: Eau Claire, Illinois wesleyan, Concordia(WI), Cornell College
    Pool C:
CE region(7) – Wash U, Augsburg, Bethel, St. Thomas, Wartburg, Minn-Morris, St. Mary’s-MN
GL region (3) – Hope, DePauw, Heidelberg
MW region(5) – Chicago, Carthage, Whitewater, Stevens Point, La Crosse
WE region(4) – Colorado College, Cal Lu, MHB, La Verne

last 4 in: Wartburg, Heidelberg, Minn-Morris, St. Mary’s-MN
first 4 out: Aurora, Otterbein, Muskingum, St. Olaf

The highest Pablo to not qualify is Johns Hopkins(0 points) at 19th, then Wesleyan-CT(2 points) at 24th. Aurora(5 points) and Otterbein(5 points) were Pablo 30 and 31.

  6. NED3VballFan,
Interesting numbers once again. When you say no Pool C’s from four regions, is Emory Pool A?

I was kinda joking about the name Quality Wins Index. This was the old QoWI format, which was one of five primary criteria.

Win on the road versus a team at or above .667 15 points
Win at home versus a team at or above .667 14 points
Win on the road versus a team at or above .500, but below .667 13 points
Win at home versus a team at or above .500, but below .667 12 points
Win on the road versus a team at or above .333, but below .500 11 points
Win at home versus a team at or above .333, but below .500 10 points
Win on the road versus a team below .333 9 points
Win at home versus a team below .333 8 points
Loss on the road versus a team at or above .667 7 points
Loss at home versus a team at or above .667 6 points
Loss on the road versus a team at or above .500, but below .667 5 points
Loss at home versus a team at or above .500, but below .667 4 points
Loss on the road versus a team at or above .333, but below .500 3 points
Loss at home versus a team at or above .333, but below .500 2 points
Loss on the road versus a team below .333 1 point
Loss at home versus a team below .333 0 points

Add points, divide by number of contests. QoWI was put out to pasture after 2007.

  7. Yes, Emory was assigned the A bid, the highest point total in each league got the A.

OK, had not heard of QoWI, using all matches and the kid brother of SOS is what I (We) are trying to get away from. All I really care about is how you do against the good teams, if you play any, and don’t take a day off and lose to someone you should not :)!

I think there will be a fair amount of shifting as we get more data from conference play.

  8. […] No. 6 Trinity (Texas), No. 7 Juniata, No. 8 Emory, No. 9 Pacific Lutheran and Washington-St. Louis. My top 10 had Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chicago and Thomas More instead of Trinity, Emory and Pacific […]
