  1. a cciw report

cciw will be a 2 team battle for the top spot and no one else even close to them. if you don’t know already, it will be between Illinois Wesleyan and millikin.

having a chance to see both Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin play this season, even without the results from this weekend, I would say in this person’s humble opinion that iwu is the better team in the cciw. tyler brown the oh for iwu is playing on another level. erin syversen the outstanding hitter for millikin is good but tyler has elevated her game. I didn’t see a more dominating hitter at the Elmhurst Invite a week ago even with all the outstanding players there.

Elmhurst has really fallen on hard times. it’s been a loonngggggg time since Elmhurst has been this down. they just don’t have the players. setting has been a rotation of 3 players though they seem to be settling on a soph setter but the real concern is a lack of terminating hitters, they have none and no blocking to speak of. when carroll takes you to 5 sets and you win the fifth set 18-16, you know you’re in for a long season. if they win 12 matches on the season with their schedule, it will truly take a miracle.

carthage should find a place in the cciw tournament with some solid hitters specifically behind the hitting of soph oh megan behrendt a leftside hammer. if they can find a solid setter who can consistenly deliver hittable balls to her and hitters like Shannon kebisek and rachael kisten, they should be a solid team.

augustana as usual will win the matches they should and lose the matches they should with the occasional upset like they did against uw stevens point.

Wheaton is not without talent but with the graduation of Shelby Knowles and transfer out of cciw freshman of the year Meghan lacey not to mention a new head coach, they are having a tough go of it. their difficult schedule doesn’t help.

north central has a new head coach and maybe a new attitude that may lead to a better team, too early to tell.

north park is intriguing. a long time cciw door mat, they have a solid group of young players that play well together. this team has serious growth potential who will experience some growing pains but is easily the most talented team I’ve seen from north park in forever. I can see them upsetting some teams who may not take them seriously. my (out of the box thinking and out in left field) pick to make the cciw tournament.

carroll is carroll and until they prove me otherwise they will be battling for last place.

    happy volleyballying!
