  1. I just posted my West Region rankings: http://www.d3vbwest.wordpress.com

I had to give more love to Whittier than you with their Trinity victory this weekend. Pacific Lutheran ranks 8th for me in the west and they were the team to give St. Thomas their only loss (swept them). Whittier also swept Pac Lu this weekend. Not complaining…just interesting. As always, the more matches played the harder it is to figure out the rankings.

  2. rbrochelle,
I considered Whittier for sure. However, I did not consider the Poets ahead of St. Thomas. The Toms have one fewer loss and beat Northwestern, La Crosse & Eau Claire after all. Whittier also got swept by Augie.

  3. True…true. I wasn’t implying the Poets (great name by the way) should be in a national Top 10. I was in the midst of ranking the west region and I was sort of forced to move Whittier up my list (higher than I wanted) due to their Trinity victory this weekend. The Augie loss could haunt them but then how do you quantify the St Thomas loss to Pac Lu? It’s all very murky right now, which was the point of the comment.

  4. rbrochelle,
Gotcha. Murky for sure. In my mind, UST’s wins more than make up for a decent season-opening PLU loss, especially when more than half of my top 10 has at least one loss. Whittier being higher than TU and CMS is certainly valid. I just like TU’s & CMS’s wins more.

I definitely considered putting CC 7th, WC 8th, TU 9th, CMS 10th and dropping Gustavus. Maybe should have.

Neither here nor there, but this post came on the heels of a 16-hour volleyball day on Friday and a 22-hour day on Saturday during a 19-match weekend.

  5. I really like Gustavus, actually. Just to put doubt in your mind.

Having started my blog and seeing the work that goes into it I simply don’t know how you do it. You remain my leader. :-)

  6. […] My Week 2 top 10 had St. Thomas and Gustavus Adolphus instead of Juniata and Northwestern. […]

  7. Ricky, looked around for you at the OSH tournament last weekend but didn’t see you. Just wanted to renew our acquaintance from last year.

  8. Mike,
I was disguised as the husky dude hunkered behind two laptops at the main court scorer’s table for nearly the entire weekend. I floated around the courts a bit, but I felt like I sat in the same place for 12 hours on Saturday.

  9. Looking at the latest top 25 AVCA poll, one has to wonder why a team would remain in the top 25 after losing 5 straight to unranked teams.

  10. Randy,
Agreed. Some teams are sticky already, especially for Week 2.
