2016 AVCA Week 7 poll: Millikin falls from top 25

As expected, last week’s top four teams remained the same in the AVCA Week 7 poll.

Unbeaten Calvin and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are the top two teams, followed by third-ranked Wittenberg and fourth-ranked Southwestern. Defending national champion Cal Lutheran rounds out the top five.

Central and Midwest teams in the Week 7 top 25: No. 11 UW-Whitewater; No. 12 UW-Stevens Point; No. 13 UW-La Crosse; No. 16 Elmhurst; No. 17 Washington-St. Louis; No. 19 Northwestern; No. 22 UW-Oshkosh; No. 25 UW-Eau Claire.

Millikin dropped out of the top 25 after being ranked 23rd last week. Ohio Northern replaces the Big Blue this week at No. 24.

Central and Midwest teams receiving votes this week: Millikin; Chicago; Gustavus Adolphus; Illinois Wesleyan; Bethel; Luther; Augsburg; St. Thomas.

My Week 7 top 10

The first regional rankings of the season come out tomorrow.

  1. How does uwsp continue to be ahead of elmhurst? They are 1-3 versus teams in the top 25. Elmhurst is 6-7 versus the same anddddddddd… elmhurst beat them hth.

  2. Regarding Elmhurst: 9 losses and coaches that can’t look past that number. Don’t fret until tomorrow when the regional rankings come out. You’ll also see this poll reflect the regional rankings slightly once they are out as coaches will start scrubbing their picks more closely.

In other news…as reported before…Eric Neely continues to include Clarkson #5, Randolph-Macon #11 and Carthage #18 in his rankings. These are three of the four teams that appear on ONLY one ballot and three come from this coach.

Oh, he doesn’t have Elmhurst in his Top 25 because he knows Clarkson, Randolph and Carthage would beat them. (Even though they have already beaten Carthage.) LOL.

  3. Anon @ 2:37,
There are other instances in the AVCA poll where certain teams should be ahead of others based on HTH results. I have not understood Witt above Hope all season. Voters can be skeptical all they want, but I wish they would honor the outcomes on the court.

  4. I can see your point on Witt and Hope. It was first game for a very young Witt team. Hope has lost to DePauw 3-0 and Elmhurst 3-1 and Calvin 3-1. Witt beat DePauw 3-0, Elmhurst 3-1 and lost to Calvin 3-1 and lost 1 of those sets 29-27. I think Witt has played the tougher schedule.

  5. I meant to say Hope lost to Calvin 3-0.

  7. 47 of 48 coaches voted this week. The best participation since I started doing this bit of silliness.

Calvin had 40 actual 1st place votes, 1 adjusted vote and the 1 mystery vote.
