  1. We are a week away from the regional rankings! So much heartache is about to occur. Here is my West Region report. Cal Lu moves back up to #2 with the SU loss:

    #1 CMS
    #2 Cal Lu
    #3 Southwestern
    #4 Trinity
    #5 Colorado College
    #6 UTD
    #7 Puget Sound
    #8 La Verne

Trinity and SU faced off and it looked like a blow out upset until SU came back to win games 3 and 4 to force a fifth. Trinity was able to finish it out and tie SU for the top spot in the SCAC. Important win for Trinity as they build their resume for the NCAA selection committee. I really struggled with how to rank these two teams as I still have them in the 3 or 4 spot. Looking at the official ranking criteria – Best Record goes to SU, Head-To-Head is a tie, SOS goes to Trinity (just a guess), Common Opponent is a tie and Wins against Ranked Opponents, which in the past has meant NCAA selected teams, is an unknown. The West RAC will have an extra week of games to base their rankings on with SU going east to play some top teams while Trinity is off. I think if SU does well then they will keep the #3 spot. Do poorly and the order will be reversed. Just a guess. Since I’m ranking them now, and don’t want to chicken out with a tie, I will keep SU ahead of Trinity just based on a 4-set victory at Trinity is better than a 5-set loss at home.

Puget Sound dropped a match against Willamette (and no longer lead the conference) but since they beat Whitworth earlier in the year, I’ll keep Puget Sound in the rankings. Their rematch will be a HUGE game as this conference has no tournament at the end of the year.

UTD continues to cruise through the ASC. Nothing else to really say about UTD until later this month when they play some ranked teams.

No news is good news out west as CMS and Cal Lu lead off my rankings. 11 days until their rematch at Cal Lu. La Verne is doing what they need to do (i.e., win) to keep that 8th spot.
