Washington-St. Louis traded places with previous No. 1 Juniata atop the AVCA Week 5 poll. No. 2 Juniata is followed by Emory, Christopher Newport and Calvin.

Washington-St. Louis received 33 of 63 first-place votes. Juniata claimed 29 top votes, while Emory nabbed one.

Other Central and Midwest region teams in the Week 5 top 25: No. 11 Carthage; No. 12 UW-Whitewater; No. 13 UW-Stevens Point; No. 15 Chicago; No. 16 Elmhurst; No. 19 UW-Oshkosh; No. 22 Saint Benedict.

  1. I’m going to keep the same rankings in the west as last week for the first 7 spots – Cal Lu, Colorado College, La Verne, CMS, Southwestern, UTD and ETBU. In the wacky Northwest Conference, Whitworth (last week’s #8) dropped matches to Pacific and Linfield, which means that conference’s automatic bid is up for grabs. I just don’t see two teams getting bids out of the Northwest this year. I’ll give the #8 spot to current Northwest leader Willamette this week but consideration went to UMHB, TLU and Whittier. UMHB is starting to get their grove back so it will be interesting to see what they can do the second half of the season.

Surprise of the week was definitely Whitworth’s losses on the road against Pacific and Linfield. Colorado College was able to beat Elmhurst, Cornell and Oshkosh this week in their hosted tournament. I’m sure Ricky won’t say it but it looks like CC got a little lucky there against the mighty Titans of Oshkosh. CC now has a nice resume for selection time in the event they get upset in their conference tournament.

  2. It’s surprising the the poll changed, since the week 5 coaches ballots that I’ve looked at match the week 4 ballots.

  3. I just noticed that, too. I was going through them and thought we had some shady voting going on. Only took me to the T’s to figure out all of the ballots were wrong (duplicated). Ugh.

  4. Ballots are offline now. Probably getting fixed.
