  1. Go Titans!

Kind of a big game in the West that has implications across all regions. Pac Lu is on the road against a team that is very up and down. A Pac Lu win pretty much secures the Northwest Conference automatic bid as I don’t see Pac Lu or Whitworth losing any of their other games. Of course, this assumes I’ve got my Northwest Conference tiebreaker correct.

A loss by Pac Lu probably gives the bid to Whitworth. Why does this matter? Pac Lu is regionally ranked #3 and stands to get an at-large bid even with a loss where Whitworth is not ranked and probably will not get a bid unless they win the conference. That will be one less at-large bid for the rest of the teams.

  2. If Whitworth and PLU win out, Whitworth wins the tie breaker. PLU is at home tonight.

  3. If both PLU and Whitworth win their final two matches, Whitworth wins the tie breaker and Auto Bid. PLU at home

  4. Good info. Thanks! I was unsure of the tiebreaker following the conference record and head-to-head record. What is the next tiebreaker? I thought it was record against conference opponents working down from the top of the schedule but I pulled this from something a few years back.

  5. Whitworth and PLU split conference matches but Whitworth beat PLU in 3 while PLU beat WW in 5. Head to head match, then sets won and lost head to head.

  6. Again, thank you!

That really does have strong implications for the West Region and even who will get to host it. This week and weekend of volleyball will, I’m sure, throw more wrenches into the works. Fun times!
