11/3: Conference tourney week

A night off — no Central, Midwest or top 25 teams play today — before we settle into the week-long madness that will culminate in the awarding of 42 more Pool A bids. Why not all 43? Well, one team is already in the field of 64. See the Conference Tourneys page to see which team is alone in the clubhouse. The tourneys page already has links to most conference tourneys along with the No. 1 seeds and dates. I’ll update that page as the automatic qualifiers are determined and as better links become available.

In other news, Pomona-Pitzer’s Allie Frappier leads the nation in kills and points per set by a wide margin. The Yale transfer has had 30+ kills five times in her first season in Division III. I mention Frappier because we had gone months without a 30-kill performance from a Central or Midwest region player. Then one player from the Central and another from the Midwest had 30+ in one of their matches yesterday. If you’ve been following regional and national statistical leaders this season, the Central and Midwest players who had 30+ will come as no surprise. See the Standout Stats page for those performances and more.
