Ricky Nelson’s 2013 Week 5 top 10

The AVCA Week 5 poll comes out Tuesday.

My rank, (my Wk 4 rank, AVCA), record, last wk results
1 (1, 1). Calvin (17-0) Consecutive-set streak halted at 47.
2 (2, 5). Cal Lutheran (17-1) W: Chapman.
3 (3, 2). Hope (18-1) Three conference sweeps.
4 (4, 4). Emory (21-1) W: Carnegie Mellon; NYU.
5 (5, 3). St. Thomas (18-1) W: Elmhurst; St. Ben’s; Wartburg; Coe.
6 (7, 8). Juniata (18-1) W: Geneva.
7 (6, 6). Elmhurst (20-2) W: Carthage; Wartburg; Concordia-Moorhead. L: St. Thomas.
8 (8, 7). Mount Union (21-0) W: Ohio Northern; Hiram.
9 (10, 13). Eastern (19-2) W: Stevenson.
10 (NR, 11). Colorado College (22-1) W: Nebraska Wesleyan twice.
Dropped out: No. 9 Saint Benedict (17-2).

My top 5 matches of the week:
10/9 St. Thomas vs. Concordia-Moorhead
10/11 Elmhurst vs. Hope
10/11 Washington-St. Louis vs. UW-Whitewater
10/12 Elmhurst vs. Calvin
10/12 Chicago vs. Calvin

The Standout Stats, Standings/Matchups and Last Team Standing pages are there for your perusal as always. This year’s LTS is down to two competitors. Those two are listed in my top 10 above. Those two also play each other this week. If it gets that far that is. Mount Union plays Wittenberg before Calvin. Either way, at most we’ll have one undefeated team in all of Division III at this time next week.

  1. […] My Week 5 top 10 contained Eastern instead of Saint Benedict. Even via video the Blazers’ loss to St. Thomas was thorough enough to sway me, but they were still close to staying in my top 10. Then again Eastern wasn’t gangbusters when I saw them last week either. […]
