AVCA 2012 Week 4 poll: Week 3 redux

Not much movement this week, as expected. My top 10 didn’t change from Week 3. Neither did the AVCA’s. However, Hope somehow managed to keep its one first-place vote from last week. That’s an interesting interpretation by that one voter. Not egregious, but my opinion is that it’s interesting.

The top five are still Washington-St. Louis, Calvin, Wittenberg, Hope and Christopher Newport.

I still disagree with the pollsters’ collective output on the order of Emory and Christopher Newport at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots. Why do I think EU should be ahead? Only because EU beat CNU in five this season on a neutral floor. Seems rational. CNU’s schedule is tougher, but head-to-head has to count for something. I sometimes have similar gripes with the regional rankings, which are coming in about a month.

No. T21 Juniata finally fell outside the top 20 for the first time in AVCA poll history.

Other Central/Midwest teams in the poll: No. 7 St. Thomas; No. 11 Elmhurst; No. 12 UW-Whitewater; No. 14 Chicago; No. 15 Wartburg; No. T21 Carthage; No. 24 UW-Stevens Point.
Receiving votes on multiple ballots: Saint Benedict; Dominican.
