AVCA 2012 Week 3 poll: WUSTL remains No. 1 despite loss

Washington-St. Louis had its 13-match winning streak snapped but the Bears remain the No. 1 team in the land. Calvin, Wittenberg, Hope and Christopher Newport round out the top five in the AVCA Week 3 poll.

How and why CNU is ahead of No. 6 Emory is a mystery. EU beat CNU last week. Then again CNU had a questionable first-place vote in the Week 2 poll. Let’s hope that gets straightened out soon.

Besides the CNU iffiness, the AVCA and I agree on the top 10. And most of the poll for that matter. I’m still not on board with a few rankings, but that’s healthy.

No. 24 UW-Stevens Point and No. 25 Southwestern joined the top 25 in the place of Bowdoin and Occidental.

Other Central/Midwest teams in the Week 3 poll: No. 7 St. Thomas; No. 11 Chicago; No. 12 Elmhurst; No. 13 UW-Whitewater; No. 17 Wartburg; No. 21 Carthage.
Receiving votes: Saint Benedict; North Central (Ill.); Dominican.
