AVCA Week 8 poll: Elmhurst’s climb continues

After another five wins this week Elmhurst (25-4) moved up two spots to No. 17 in the Week 8 AVCA poll. WIAC leader UW-Stevens Point (24-6) nearly quadrupled its vote total and moved up to 27th place. But I think both are about five spots too low. Why Northwestern (24-2) remains unranked is anyone’s guess.

The top 10 teams remained the same, but Wittenberg (27-3) fell two places to No. 6 after getting swept at UW-Whitewater (21-7). Calvin (26-0) is still the lone D-III undefeated and unanimous No. 1. My top 10 and the AVCA’s are very close again this week.

It’s disconcerting that several of the records published with the Week 8 poll are incorrect.

Central and Midwest region teams receiving AVCA Week 8 votes:
3. Washington 24-1
9. Concordia-Moorhead 21-3
10. Carthage 26-6
11. St. Thomas 26-3
16. Chicago 27-4
17. Elmhurst 25-4
21. UW-Whitewater 21-7
Also receiving votes: UW-Stevens Point 24-6 (No. 27), Coe 28-3 (No. 31), UW-Platteville 19-13 (No. 32).
